Know Your Bus Series - PVP Liner

PVP Liner, named after its founder Panfilo V. Pajarillo, was a city bus company based in Sta. Ana, Manila, established in 1984 as a sole proprietorship. In 1990, the business was transferred to a family corporation, P.V. Pajarillo Liner, Inc., a year before Panfilo's death in 1991.

The bus company enjoyed loyalty from the passengers along its historical routes: Quiapo-Guadalupe via JP Rizal; FTI-Navotas via EDSA; and Asturias-Ayala. Its buses have been dubbed the "Morning Star" and then later on the "Rising Star" (upon the operation of their first air-conditioned units), possibly in reference to the "starry" livery its units have carried, which mainly consist of Hino buses.

Despite the popularity of their buses, PVP Liner was not immune to decline of business, which was brought upon by changing political and economic climates at the turn of the century. The Quiapo-Guadalupe line fell into obscurity as the company failed to confirm authorized units; the FTI-Navotas line was sold to CHER Transport, who in turn transferred it to the NAFTI Transport Service and Multi-purpose Cooperative later on. These situations left it with three franchises at the Asturias-Ayala route, which authorized it a respectable 34 units nonetheless.

In 2013, the company was closed down for good in response to the City of Manila's ban on the entry of buses on the issue of terminals. This left a large void in Manila's transportation network, as PVP Liner was relied upon by many workers and students that travel between the capital and the business district in Makati, many of whom have grown fond and close to the bus crews they interacted with everyday.

As early as 2014, a new company, Nathaniel Bus Line, made moves to acquire the Asturias-Ayala line. In 2016, Nathaniel started operations under the name of PVP Liner pending the finality of one of its franchises to Nathaniel's name, which was granted shortly after. Some of PVP Liner's assets were now used by other companies as well; for example, Cross Country/Trans Oriental, Golden Dragon's dealer in the country, now uses PVP's old motorpool in Pasig Line/A. Fernando as its service area, while the old garage in New Panaderos now serves as a warehouse.
