QC gov't, LTFRB inks MOA for bus program, to start December

During QC's previous mayor Sonny Belmonte's term,
these government buses were available for rent to QC citizens
as the "Sasakyan ng Bayan". Now his daughter, current mayor Joy
Belmonte, looks to expand the concept for a sustainable development.

The Quezon City local government unit (LGU), in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), is set to launch its own City Bus Augmentation Program by December 2020, as the two agencies signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the program on November 20, 2020.

The program aims to supplement existing public transport options available to Quezon City residents, and provide traffic congestion relief.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte noted that public transport is still limited within the city, necessitating the addition of the new bus routes to serve the public.

While the program would be open to the public on its initial run, Mayor Belmonte revealed that the buses would eventually be exclusive to QCitizen ID holders.

The Quezon City government proposed 8 routes for LTFRB's evaluation:
Route 1: City Hall to Cubao (P. Tuazon corner Gen. Romulo) v.v.
Route 2: City Hall to Litex v.v.
Route 3: Welcome Rotonda to Aurora-Katipunan v.v.
Route 4: City Hall to Gen. Luis via SB Road v.v.
Route 5: City Hall to Mindanao/Quirino Highway v.v.
Route 6: City Hall to Gilmore LRT v.v.
Route 7: City Hall to Eastwood (C-5 Ortigas) v.v.
Route 8: City Hall to Roosevelt LRT v.v.

Each of the routes will have a set operating schedule and shall be serving specific bus stops; however, the Quezon City government stated that bus stops may still change.
